The Code

The Code we live by

Twelve rules. Not a program. Not a cure. Not a meeting.

Just how we fish. Read them, live them, and pass them on to the next one who can't stop casting.

1

The alarm is a suggestion. The tide is not.

You can sleep in. The water won’t wait. We go.

2

We count the cast, not the catch.

Some days the fish win. That’s not a bad day — that’s the deal.

3

We keep what we eat, release the rest — gently.

Wet hands. Quick photo. Back in the water. The bay gave us this; we give it back.

4

We leave the water better than we found it.

No line. No trash. No excuses. The next angler gets a cleaner spot because we were there.

5

We lie about the size. We never lie about the spot.

Some things are sacred. That’s one of them.

6

We teach anyone who asks.

Nobody was born knowing a Palomar knot. Somebody showed you. Now it’s your turn.

7

We take the kid, the veteran, and the first-timer.

The best day on the water is never the one you fished alone.

8

We give the next angler his water.

There’s plenty of bay. Don’t crowd the drift. A man’s cast deserves its own patch of flat.

9

We fish the weather we get.

Wind, rain, or flat calm — the water is always worth it. Excuses are for the dock.

10

We split the bait.

Nobody fishes alone here unless they want to. Share the launch, share the ice, share the story.

11

We tell the truth about the conditions.

The story can grow. The facts can’t shrink. Especially to the guy loading up behind you.

12

We pass it on.

Rods, knots, spots, and the reason you got up at 4 a.m. That’s how this outlives us.
